If a collocation graph or network includes too many nodes and collocates, it becomes hard to interpret. This is referred to as an overpopulated graph. The solution is either to change the filters in the table and make the threshold values more restrictive or to apply a filter to the graph.
Below is an image of an overpopulated graph with 392 collocates:
In order to apply a filter to the graph, select the blue filter icon above the graph . This will open a menu which allows the user to choose the number of collocates that will appear in the graph, thus making the data much easier to interpret.
Below is an image of the same search with filters applied:
The filter button will remain above the graph allowing the user to experiment with the frequency of graph collocates displayed.
